Morocco packing list.

The practical bits nobody tells you before you go.

01

Clothing

Works for medina, desert and coast

  • Lightweight long-sleeve tops and loose trousers or a maxi skirt (modesty + sun protection)
  • A scarf or shawl (sun, wind, dust, and useful for mosque/mausoleum visits)
  • A warm layer for desert nights โ€” temperatures drop fast after sunset in the Sahara
  • Comfortable, broken-in walking shoes (medina streets are uneven cobblestone)
  • Swimsuit if you're doing the coast (Essaouira, Casablanca) โ€” cover-up for getting to/from the beach
  • Sunglasses and a wide-brim hat or cap

02

Health & comfort

  • Reusable water bottle (tap water isn't recommended โ€” buy or filter)
  • Basic meds: rehydration salts, anti-diarrheal, any personal prescriptions
  • Hand sanitizer and tissues (public restrooms often lack soap/paper)
  • Sunscreen (high SPF โ€” desert and coastal sun are both intense)
  • A light scarf doubles as a dust mask on windy desert days

03

Money & documents

  • Passport + a photocopy stored separately
  • Some cash in dirham (MAD) โ€” many small vendors and riads are cash-only
  • A card with no foreign transaction fees for hotels/bigger purchases
  • Travel insurance details saved offline

04

Extras

  • Universal power adapter (Morocco uses Type C/E plugs, 230V)
  • A small day bag for medina wandering
  • Earplugs (calls to prayer + lively medinas can be loud, in a good way)
  • An offline map or downloaded map area, since medina alleys confuse GPS

Pack light, leave room for a rug. โ€” Ginger
